Dr. Moore is a retired educator who was born and reared in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her early education was received at Lewis Adams Elementary School and Tuskegee Institute High School in 1962. After graduation, she matriculated at Tuskegee Institute (University) earning a B.S. Degree in Industrial Education in 1966. Having received an U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare Fellowship, she attended graduate school and earned a Master of Education Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Tuskegee Institute in 1968. Continued studies led to Certification in Supervision of Instruction, an Education Specialist (Ed.S.).. Degree in Administration & Supervision from Auburn University in 1985 and a Doctorate (Ed. D.) in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, March 2002.

In December of 1968, she began her first teaching assignment at Shorter Elementary School with the Macon County Board of Education. During her forty-two and a half years with the Board, she served as a teacher, Volleyball Coach, Guidance Counselor, Coordinator of Testing and Program Evaluation, Federal Programs Director, Assistant Principal, Director of Career and Technical Education, Assistant Superintendent, and ended her career as Superintendent of Schools in 2010.

She gives much of her time to community and professional affiliations in Tuskegee. She is a member of St. John A.M.E. Church where she serves as Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Secretary and also gives time for janitorial needs at the Church. She is President and CEO of her Consulting Business, Connecting for Success, LLC., a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Tuskegee Alumnae Chapter and is a Board Member for the Lots of Love Youth Mentoring Organization. She served four years as President of the Tuskegee United Women League, Inc., four terms as the Chairperson of the Tuskegee – Macon County Black History Celebration Committee and served as President of the Tuskegee University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. She is also founder and served as Vice Chairperson of the Macon County Coalition for Community Advancement.

By proclamation of the Macon County Commission-governing body of Macon County, she was proclaimed “The Care and Share Most Outstanding Woman of the Year” and December 18, 2009 was proclaimed Dr. Gwendolyn Trawick Moore Appreciation Day. She is the recipient of The American Legion Meritorious Service and Loyal Cooperation Award; Teacher of the Year Award; Outstanding Vocational Director Award; the Tuskegee Chapter of National Tots and Teens, Inc. Untiring, Dedicated and Outstanding Efforts Award and the Exceptional Education Service Award. She was recognized by the Tuskegee Optimist Club for appreciation of efforts demonstrated to strengthen the relationship between parents and their children. Additionally, she was recognized by the Macon County Council of PTA’S for her loyal and supportive efforts.

​Her immediate delight is serving as the Executive Director of the Friends of Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Inc. since 2013 and volunteering at the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. The giving of her time and service is to assist in preserving the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, which represents excellence, commitment to service and devotion to the exceptional.
